More than 100 kinds of birds could be observed in the area between the summit of Mt.Ontake (3067m / 10,062feet above sea level), and the town (560m / 1837feet).
One of the best observation points from spring to summer is Nigorigo Spa resort area, where you may find Japanese robins. Around Gandate, you may find blue-and-white flycatchers.
In the Alpine zone, snow grouses(rock ptarmigans) and spotted nutcrackers may be seen flying around the summit.
In winter time at the Osaka dam, you can enjoy a “choir” singing of wild ducks such as mandarin ducks.
Many wild animals inhabit in a large area at the foot of Mt Ontake: Japanese serows, monkeys, rabbits and martens.
Even if you cannot find them, they leave some signs such as foot prints, droppings and scratches on tree.
It will be interesting to find out what kinds of animals there are and how they survive and so on.
Abundant and clear water of the Osaka River creates riffles and deep pools, presenting beautiful scenery, presenting beautiful scenery.
The upstream inhabits such fish as iwanas (char), amago s(land- locked Japanese trout), ajimes dojyo(delicate loach) , kajikas (fresh water rock fish ) and more than 10 species. From Mitsudaki trail of Gandate you will find some iwanas and amagos down there.
Various kinds of insects live in Osaka cho. You may find some kind of beetles, stag beetles,dragonflies and butterflies.
