- Mt.Ontake
Mt.Ontake extends over two prefectures of Gifu and Nagano. It has been well known as a sacred mountain for a long time. Today it has been drawing additional attention for its rich and magnificent nature.
A ridgeline of the summit extends for 4km( 2.5miles ) or more, showing its dynamic and characteristic features. Near the Hida-side summit in the north range, there is a pond which changes its color from emerald green to cobalt blue. Streams are running through a marsh where alpine flowers are blooming. You will find some Rock ptarmigan, God’s messengers, cooing there.
The shortest route to the summit starts from Nigorigo spa resort area.
This is the oldest mountain trail leading through the primeval forest, where various lives, such as moss grown conifers, squirrels and martens, can be found.
After being showered with energy of sacred Mt. Ontake, all you have to do is to soak yourself in Onsen(hot spring).
