
The foot of Mt. Ontake has a huge natural water container which supplies water to forests, and the forests nurture various kinds of plants.
The area between the elevation of 500m and 3000m ( 1640 feet – 9842 feet ), shows typical perpendicular distributions map with different vegetation: Japanese cypresses in the mountainous zone, veitch firs and the Northern Japanese hemlocks in the sub Alpine zone and Japanese stone pines and komakusa (dicentra) in the Alpine zone, etc.
Between Ichino Tori (the first shrine gate), the entrance of all the tours, and the Gandate Park, there are many hydrangeas. This is one of the popular spots for visitors.
