Starting from Gandate Park, the Small Waterfall Tour offers a delightful 4km hike, taking approximately 3 hours to complete. It showcases three waterfalls, lush forests on lava plateaus, and a wetland, making it an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts. Sneakers are suitable for this easy stroll, making it perfect for beginners.

1. Mitsutdaki Falls (22m in three stages): This waterfall is the closest to Gandate Park. You can observe the falls, divided into three sections, by walking along the iron walkway from the lower to the upper stage. The sight of sunlight filtering through the narrow valley, with mist from the falls swirling, is breathtaking.
2. Karatani Falls (15m): This powerful waterfall drops a large volume of water into the main stream, creating a majestic cascade. Surrounding rock formations, composed of lava, create a cavern-like space where the roar of the waterfall echoes. On sunny afternoons, you might even catch a glimpse of a rainbow when the sunlight hits the falls.
3. Akagane-toyo Falls (14m): Named after “akagane” (copper) and “toyo” (sweetfish), this waterfall contrasts with Karatani Falls. It flows into the tributary Karatani, and unlike the rugged lava formations of the main falls, it cascades gracefully over smooth, semi-circular lava formations resembling an amphitheater. The emerald green hue of the water in the pool below is mesmerizing.
4. Forest on the Lava Plateau: The forest that sprawls across the upper part of the rocky cliffs is surprisingly flat and easy to walk through, offering a pleasant trail through the broadleaf trees. In spring, the fresh greenery, and in autumn, the vibrant foliage, make for an enjoyable path connecting the waterfalls.
5. Donbiki Flat Wetland: Located on the lava plateau, this wetland hosts a diverse ecosystem of grasses, flowers, and insects. You can enjoy the serene beauty of mirrored landscapes reflected on the water surface, especially during the autumn foliage season.
