詳細

Mid-May to Late October

※It is possible to explore outside the above period; however, please note that the old Ontake climbing trail from Takebashi to Senjin Waterfall may be frozen and dangerous outside this period.

Throughout the entire course, the trail winds amidst the ancient forest, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the secluded atmosphere of the deep mountains. As you progress, the trail gradually steepens, with some sections featuring slippery stairs, so caution is advised, especially in wet conditions. Sturdy trekking shoes are recommended for secure footing.

  1. Zaimoku Falls (23m): Located on the main stream of Hyoe Valley, this wide and powerful waterfall cascades a significant volume of water, drenching anyone standing close with its spray. The rock walls forming the waterfall exhibit well-developed columnar jointing, resembling stacked timber, hence the name “Zaimoku” which means “timber”. The verdant green of moss-covered rocks contrasts beautifully with the brown hue from the hot springs, which also color the surroundings. Please be aware that this area is inhabited by bears, so precautions such as making noise are advised to avoid unexpected encounters.
  2. Onsen Terraces: Adjacent to Zaimoku Falls, hot spring minerals have accumulated, forming terraced pools resembling rice paddies. On chilly days, wisps of steam rise from these terraces, creating a unique spectacle reminiscent of hot spring fields. Dip your hands into the water to feel the warmth and experience the power of Mount Ontake.

*Note: This area is inhabited by bears. Please take precautions such as making noise to avoid unexpected encounters. Routes may become unclear during snowfall or freezing conditions. Proper equipment and experience are necessary during winter.
